Charles M. Lane, 69, Carmel passed away Tuesday the 28th of January, 2014 following an extended illness. He was born on September 23, 1944, in Indianapolis to Robert and Gleeta (Graves) Lane. He graduated from North Central High School in 1961 and matriculated at Indiana University, earning an undergraduate degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from the Kelley School of Business.
Charles, or “Chuck” as he was known to those who loved him, retired from Citizens Gas in 2000 after an accomplished career spanning 32 years, beginning as a Junior Accountant and rising to the role of Director of Treasury & Financial Services. He had a mind for business and enjoyed traveling. He loved cheering on the Hoosiers and the Indianapolis Colts. Despite being known, jokingly, as “Mr. Friendly” he cared for his family and friends very deeply and would do anything for them. He was also a member of College Park Church.
Charles is survived by his wife, Janice Lane; two daughters, Angela Eoff of Houston, TX, and Michelle Schmelter of Fishers, IN, and son, Charles Lane II of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren; mother, Gleeta Lane and two brothers, Tom Lane and James Lane both of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Lane.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 pm at College Park Church, 2606 W. 96th Street, Indianapolis, on Friday, January 31st. Services will immediately follow at 5:00 pm at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to College Park Church, the National Kidney Foundation, or the Humane Society.

Praying for the entire family as each of you carry individually the heavy grief that follows the loss …of a husband, friend and companion, …a father, …a brother, …a son. Hoping for cherished memories of the happiest of days to eventually override the pain your hearts feel so acutely today. When I lost my Dad, I remember standing in a grocery store wanting to shout, “How can you people carry on as though this was a normal day?! I have lost my father!” Things will not be “normal” for a very long time because you can’t pick up the phone and call him. A very wise hospice nurse told me, “If you’re driving alone in the car and you think of something you want to tell him, go ahead, say it to him out loud in the car. It helps! Allow your heart to find peace with a new “normal.” And enjoy a hand picked selection of favorite memories that will keep him alive in your heart forever, Nothing can take that away from you.
With love,
Betsy & Phil Fladung

Dear Jan
I am so sorry to hear about Chuck’s passing. I can remember the first time I ever saw him outside of the office and he was not the quiet guy I knew in the office, I was so surprised. He was a good man and had a fun personality. He will be truly missed by all. You and he were true soulmates. I know the loss of your best friend is heartbreaking. You have some truly wonderful memories of your life together all these years. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

Mr.Serious Smiles, he always looked so serious even when he smiled. He seem to always have business on his mind. He was a good man and I’m sure will be missed by many.
